Dates: 28 – 30 October 2009 Venue: Indaba Hotel, Johannesburg
Why Attend

Today women constitute 16 per cent of the members of parliaments around the world. There have been calls for more efficient methods to reach gender balance in political institutions. Quotas present one such mechanism.

Women’s representation increases significantly in countries that apply quota systems in national parliaments enabling women to overcome obstacles that prevent them from entering politics in the same ways as their male colleagues.

Despite the fact that women in Africa hold prominent posts, political roles for women still need improvement. Currently Africa has only one female President throughout its history.
This conference will equip women in changing traditional prejudices and stereotypes that have marginalized women for so long. Most importantly it will equip the women that attend to go back and work on their 50/50 quota to ensure that they reach the desired target.
